Free To Choose

A song about the freedom to choose to put right things we have done wrong.

I could undo this
I could undo that
I could undo this, that, this that, this that, this, that, that.
I could undo this
I could undo that,
I could undo anything at all
Just give me a call
That’s that.

Well you found out I been cheating
You know those times were few
You know those times were fleeting
It didn’t  matter who.
You found out I been cheating
I know I made you blue
You found out I been cheating
And i made a fool of you

I could undo this
I could undo that
I could undo this, that, this that, this that, this, that, that.
I could undo this
I could undo that,
I could undo anything at all
Just give me a call
That’s that.

Well you told me you were leaving
I didn’t believe it was true
You told me you were leaving
That you and I were through
You told me you were leaving
I didn’t know what to do
Well you told me you were leaving
Then I fell in love with you.

I could undo this
I could undo that
I could undo this, that, this that, this that, this, that, that.
I could undo this
I could undo that,
I could undo anything at all
Just give me a call
That’s that.

I could undo this
I could undo that
I could undo this, that, this that, this that, this, that, that.
I could undo this
I could undo that,
I could undo anything at all
Just give me a call
That’s that.

Is That What It Means

A song about the conflicts and dilemmas surrounding sexual orientation and the freedom that can be found in confronting those and if possible living your truth.

Is that what you want,
The way that you want,
Is that what you want
Is it she

Is that what you need,
The way that you need,
Is that what you need
Is it he

Say what you want.
Do what you need.

To see how it feels,
That jolt of excitement,
A chase to delight in.
Hows it feel

To see how it feels
Come out of your closet
You’ll be fine don’t knock it
How’s it feel

See how it feels
See if you’re free

A beautiful depiction
Desire and affliction
Is that what it means
To be free.

Is it shame without a name
Is it pleasure or pain
Is that what it means
To be free

Shine on
Everything will be alright
Shine on
Everything will be ok
Shine on
Everything will be alright
Shine on
Everything will be ok
You’ll find someone to hold you
The right one to love and enfold you
Shine on
I know you’ll find your way.

To see how it feels
When all is revealed
When there’s no more shield
How’s it feel

See how you feel.
See if you’re free

Who you channeling tonight
Is it Jekyll or Hyde
Is that what it means
To be free

Shine on
Everything will be alright
Shine on
Everything will be ok
Shine on
Everything will be alright
Shine on
Everything will be ok
You’ll find someone to hold you
The right one to love and enfold you
Shine on
I know you’ll find your way

Shine on
Everything will be alright
Shine on
Everything will be ok
Shine on
Everything will be alright
Shine on
Everything will be ok
You’ll find someone to hold you
The right one to love and enfold you
Shine on
I know you’ll find your way

La Flaneuse

A song about the freedom that can be found after a war (or pandemic). The freedom to walk and dance freely in the streets. The title relates to the freedom women can find in walking around freely without fear of intimidation. My inspiration was Paris.

Dancing with you on the cobblestones,
Streets fill up with people,
Strolling hand in hand,
Voices playing, ricocheting,
Hips sway to the band.

Dancing with you on the cobblestones,
Streets fill up with people,
Strolling hand in hand
Toes tapping, fingers snapping,
Ain’t life looking grand

So walk along with me
Arm in arm
Come celebrate with me
Let’s make a start

Dancing with you on the cobblestones,
Streets fill up with people,
Strolling hand in hand,
Faces glowing, tempo growing,
Freedom cross the land.

So walk along with me
Arm in arm
Come celebrate with me
Let’s make a start

So walk along with me
Arm in arm
Come celebrate with me
Let’s make a start

Can You Hear Me

This song is about loss. But it is also about the freedom the person who you have lost can hopefully find. I lost both of my parents in 2020-this album is dedicated to both of them but this song in particular to my Mum.

Wouldn’t it be good if you could.
Tell me where you’ve gone I wish I understood
Tell me what it means what have you seen
An unknown season-somewhere in between.

What does it feel like are you free
Where are you now are you somewhere in a dream
Do you know that there are gifts that still remain
Treasures to behold, to welcome and embrace.

So, ooh
Can you hear me
Can you hear me
Can you hear me
Can you hear me
Ohhh

I wish I had been there I’d been near
To take your hand and tell you not to have any fears
Gone but not forgotten  things will be alright, okay
Thoughts of love and laughter I will think of you that way.

So, ooh
Can you hear me
Can you hear me
Can you hear me
Can you hear me
Ohhh ohhh ohhh

Drifting

This song is simply about the feeling of being carefree.

The clouds pass by
Where are they going
Where are they now
No way of knowing
I’m alone, lost and aimless,
Adrift, no wind in my sails.
Gonna breathe easy
Follow the stars
Bathe in the rays.

Drifting over the ocean
Still waters, not stormy sea,
Trying to find me some motion
Then the waves start rolling on for me.

Drifting yeah, baby I’m drifting yeah

Birds in the sky
Rocking and roaming
Fish flying high
Whether breezes are blowing
Travelling on to the horizon
Swept along wherever it be
Gonna go slowly
Dance in the moonlight
A spirit that’s free

Drifting over the ocean
Still waters, not stormy sea,
Trying to find me some motion
Then the waves start rolling on for me.

Drifting yeah, baby I’m drifting yeah
Drifting yeah, baby I’m drifting yeah.

Get In The Ring

This song is about the freedom that is found when creativity returns to you after a fallow period.

I’m feeling like a fallen woman
As I wait for words to come
A fight that lurks inside me
The battle it rages on.
I’m feeling like a fallen woman
I really need to have some fun.
I’m feeling like a fallen woman
As I wait for words to come
A heart full head that’s empty
Stagnation leaves me numb
I’m feeling like a fallen woman
I really need to have some fun.

All it takes
Is just one step
All it takes
Is just one swing
All it takes
Is just one punch
All it takes to get back in the ring

I’m feeling like a fallen woman
As I wait for words to come
My unused pen weighs heavy
Think I got me a smoking gun.
I’m feeling like a fallen woman
I really need to have some fun.

I’m feeling like a fallen woman
As I wait for words to come
My tongue feels tied and twisted
Procrastination leaves me dumb
I’m feeling like a fallen woman
I really need to have some fun.

All it takes
Is just one step
All it takes
Is just one swing
All it takes
Is just one punch
All it takes to get back in the ring.

All it takes
Is just one step
All it takes
Is just one swing
All it takes
Is just one punch
All it takes to get back in the ring.

Cos You’re Beautiful

This song is bout the negativity so often experienced on social media but with the reassurance that we can all rise above that.

So what, who cares,
Bout the likes and shares
Bout the fakes, unfollowers
Voyeurs and wallowers.

So what, who cares,
Bout the doubts, despair,
The fucked up things that you see and hear,
Don’t be wasting time on  the insincere.

Cos you’re beautiful,
Cos you’re beautiful, ul, ul
Cos you’re beautiful,
Cos you’re beautiful, ul, ul

So what, who cares
Bout the looks and stares
Bout the snakes, idolaters
Users and borrowers

So what, who cares
Bout the crap compares
The bullshit thoughts that you’re not good enough,
The trumped up notion things will always be tough.

So you want people to love,
Love yourself for people to love you,
So you want people to love you,
Love yourself,
Like I love you.

Cos you’re beautiful,
Cos you’re beautiful, ul, ul
Cos you’re beautiful,
Cos you’re beautiful, ul, ul

Freedom

This song was inspired by events that unfolded in Afghanistan in 2021 and Ukraine in 2022 and about the freedoms most of us have that so many people in other parts of the world can only remember or imagine.

Freedom in another world
Freedom that is real
Freedom that is seen and heard
Freedom you can feel

When will we ever learn
When will we try
Make love instead of hurt
Seem to always make us cry

When will we ever learn
When will we try
Light a fire inside that burns
So we always question why

Freedom in another world
Freedom that is real
Freedom that is seen and heard
Freedom you can feel

When will we ever learn
When will we try
Grow flowers, raise wise words.
Leave the thunder high and dry

Let people go
Set people free
Let the people know
Let the people see

Freedom in another world
Freedom that is real
Freedom that is seen and heard
Freedom you can feel

Freedom in another world
Freedom that is real
Freedom that is seen and heard
Freedom you can feel

Rock On Ruby

This song is about Ruby Bridges, who in 1960, aged 6, became the first African-American child to be allowed to go to her local school.

A little bitty girl left out cos she’s not white
A little bitty girl she was really up for the fight
So 4 big fed men took her there and home at night

A little bitty girl left out cos she’s not white
A little bitty girl she was really up for the fight
So 4 big fed men took her there and home at night

She wanna go to school
She wanna go to school
She wanna go to school
She wanna go to school
She wanna go to school
She wanna go to school
(She’s no fool)

Rock on Ruby
Rock on Ruby hey hey
Rock on Ruby
Rock on Ruby okay
You gotta rock on Ruby
Be like Ruby today

A little bitty girl she always dared to dream
She had the right to learn she had the right to be set free
She was a  pioneer back in nineteen sixty

A little bitty girl she always dared to dream
She had the right to learn she had the right to be set free
She was a  pioneer back in nineteen sixty

Rock on Ruby
Rock on Ruby hey hey
Rock on Ruby
Rock on Ruby okay
You gotta rock on Ruby
Be like Ruby today

Rock on Ruby
Rock on Ruby hey hey
Rock on Ruby
Rock on Ruby okay
You gotta rock on Ruby
Be like Ruby today

One more time..
Rock on Ruby
Rock on Ruby hey hey
Rock on Ruby
Rock on Ruby okay
You gotta rock on Ruby
Be like Ruby today

Things I Forgot To Remember

This song is about the freedoms and fun involved in getting older!

It’s never too late to grow old in disgrace
Don’t wait until you can’t
That’d be a mistake
Oh baby oh baby

My hearts been  broken and I’ve broken  a few
I’m  happier honey just to be with you
Oh oh baby oh oh baby
My bodies got creaky, my hairs gone grey
My waistlines thicker, my hearings not great
Oh oh baby oh oh baby

Don’t carry no baggage, it’ll pull you on down
You won’t get up if you’re flat on the ground
Oh oh baby oh oh baby
I look in the mirror,  what do I see
A few more lines, but I got em for free
Oh oh baby oh oh baby

Things I forgot to remember
Things I forgot to forget
Things I can just about memorise
Things I forgot to regret
Things I forgot to remember
Things I forgot to forget
Things I can just about memorise
Things that I haven’t done yet.

My tickers still tocking, my teeth still fit
It’s quite the done thing  to be a grumpy old git
Oh oh baby oh oh baby
You gotta hold on tight if you’re up for the ride
We’re gonna roll on right to the end of the line
Oh oh baby, oh oh baby.

Things I forgot to remember
Things I forgot to forget
Things I can just about memorise
Things I forgot to regret
Things I forgot to remember
Things I forgot to forget
Things I can just about memorise
Things that I haven’t done yet.
